What is the house like? Is it Private?
Our entire community is limited to 3.4 acres or more per property so privacy is assured. Casa de Saguaro has 3.4 acres of unspoiled desert foliage on a country road away from any main roads. There is a completely enclosed backyard with a large pool, outdoor kitchen and living area for your outdoor enjoyment.
How far is the house from the Sonoran Desert Museum?
Casa de Saguaro is located on the west side of Tucson so close to the Sonoran Museum. Many vacation homes in Tucson are on the East Side far away from town, the university and the desert museum. Casa de Saguaro is a private and secluded home but with all the amenities and luxuries of a private, gated vacation home and the unspoiled Sonoran Desert as our backyard.
How far is the house from Downtown Tucson/ University of Arizona?
Casa de Saguaro is just 12 miles from central Tucson and the University. You can reach that area by highway or city roads.
Is the desert safe for kids? I always hear of poisonous snakes, spiders, scorpions, cacti, and more?
Tucson is located in the Sonoran Desert known for its diverse wildlife and plant life. However that wildlife does include a few poisonous and prickly varities. We see all kinds of diverse wildlife here on occasion including bobcats, coyotes, javalina, deer, and more. Rattlesnakes do call this area home just like many areas of the US. In addition we sometimes have a scorpion visit our property. Scorpions are generally considered relatively harmless to adults (about the same as a bee sting). However for young children or if you are allergic to bee stings we recommend you take extra caution in the desert for both bees and scorpions. Tarantulas can show up during the Monsoon season (July-September) but contrary to popular belief, are docile and harmless unless provoked. Some people even have them as pets (yikes). Cacti have thorny spines and yes they are everywhere in the desert. We've never met a cactus we didn't like out here. They are truly what makes the Sonoran Desert unique and so beautiful. Be careful and alert and you will be fine.
Can we buy groceries nearby?
Yes. There are plenty of commercial establishments within short driving distance. The closest grocery store is approximately 8 miles from the main road.
Where do we park?
Casa de Saguaro has a 2 car garage available for private, closed parking. There is plenty of additional parking space near the garage when needed.
How do we get in the house?
The house will be left unlocked for you...our housekeeper will come to the house immediately prior to your arrival and will leave the house open.
Where's the closest airport?
Tucson Airport (TUS) is just 25 minutes away; Phoenix Airport (PHX) is about 1-1/2 hours to the northwest.
Do you allow dogs?
YES, the community is very dog friendly. Because of this freedom, aggressive dogs are generally not tolerated unless they are restrained. We also mandate that any pets in our home are on preventative flea control, and that you properly dispose of pet waste around the outside of the house.
Is the kitchen fully stocked/what will be provided during our stay?
The kitchen is complete with toaster oven, refrigerator, gas range, microwave, coffee maker, garbage disposal, blender, dishwasher, and crock pot. We also have an indoor grille with vent, and an outdoor kitchen with a grill, small refrigerator, and sink. You will find all necessary cookware, bakeware, utensils, and all dishes included. Well....that depends! We have one king-size bed in the master suite plus 2 bedrooms with queen-size beds and an office/bedroom with a trundle bed (two twin size beds) for a total of four (4) rooms and 5 beds. As a general rule, we prefer to limit the number of guests to eight (8) but depending on the number of children in your party, we may be able to accommodate up to 10.
If this is secluded and private what is there to do? Will my kids get bored?
There are numerous outdoor activities to satisfy the most energetic guest. There are excellent hiking trails and biking trails; nearby Tucson offers all the comforts of the city and lots of tourist attractions. numerous horseback riding rentals nearby, eco-excursions, the world famous desert museum, casinos, and so much more. Is there a perfect guest for Casa de Saguaro? Who might be unhappy there?
The perfect guests are those looking for a relaxed vacation, in a well-appointed but private home with beautiful surroundings, peace and privacy. Visitors looking for lots of close nightlife or those who prefer to eat every meal in a restaurant would probably be happier downtown or at a hotel.
What happens if something breaks or there are other problems that need attention during our stay?
Our housekeeper and handyman live close-by and can usually be reached via cell phone. We will do our best to get problems taken care of as quickly as possible. But, due to the nature of desert living, instant repairs are not always possible.
